15 Incredible Things To Do This Holiday In Katy Texas

Published December 6th, 2019 by The Silmon Group

Houston’s fabled heat has left, so it’s the perfect time of the year to enjoy outdoor activities with your family – without worrying about sweating through your clothes! Now that the holidays are in full swing and the kids are at home, you and your family can enjoy a full slate of fun activities in Katy, Texas.

 Here are some of them:

 YMCA Turkey Dash

This annual event, hosted by the Katy YMCA, raises funds for the Better Us Campaign, a YMCA scholarship program that assists families in need with childcare, summer camps, swim lessons and other activities.

Come out with your kids and participate in a 10K, 5K, 1 Mile Kids Race or 1 Mile Walk/Run. The variety in the distances makes the races perfect for everyone in the family, from beginner to expert.

The YMCA makes it even more fun by allowing participants to dress up in costumes with a Thanksgiving theme. Afterwards, your family can enjoy treats, a photo booth, and kids’ zone to celebrate your (sweaty) time together.

Pet Photos With Santa

Head over with your furry friends to La Centerra to get a holiday snapshot of them with Santa. While you wait, you can enjoy treats, prizies and get information on how to keep your pets safe.

You can share your picture-perfect pet photos with your family and friends – they’re the ideal way to brag about your amazing fur baby!

This event is organized by Natural Pawz and Citizens for Animal Protection (CAP), which are local animal advocacy groups.

Christmas Trees Dewberry Farm

If you’re hankering to smell a freshly cut Christmas tree in your living room, then you don’t want to miss out on cutting your own tree at Dewberry Farm.

Take a wagon ride or the Deweyville Express train and to the farm’s 40-acre forest, where you can pick your own Christmas tree. Once there, you can tap into inner lumberjack and use the furnished saw to cut your tree down or have it cut down for you. If you come before 6pm, admission is free!

Farmers Market on Grand Parkway

There’s nothing like a Farmer’s Market. It’s the best place to get fresh local produce and treats for the family, but without all the pesticides and chemicals you find in your local grocery store. Check out the market’s new location at the Church of Apostles every Saturday and locally raised meats, handmade breads and baked goods, handmade soaps, jams and jellies, spices, snacks, among other offerings.

You’ll feel good, support your local community, and find fresh food for your family's dinner table.

Family Campout

Take your tents and enjoy a family sleepover in the outdoors. The City of Katy holds this twice a year at the Veterans of Foreign War Park. Take your family and camp out in the park, enjoy a hot-dog dinner, and watch a movie on an open-air screen. It's a great way to spend time with your family while meeting other like-minded folks from the area.

Christmas Tree Lighting at Katy City Hall

In Katy’s historic Downtown, you can enjoy a night of cocoa and cookies and ring in the Christmas season with a Christmas tree lighting at Katy’s City Hall. Enjoy a night of local dance and listen to choirs showing off their prepared numbers.

Pique your children’s interest with a reading of one their favorite Christmas stories. And no Christmas tree lighting is complete without a selfie with Santa, so don’t forget your smartphones!
